Blog: Focus on Hope | Carolien
I am Carolien Croon (she/her) and I’m the director of the Biblical Museum. The curatorial team of our exhibition RE:FWD has asked me why I believe it’s important to focus on hope and a hopeful future.
Why is this exhibition so important from the perspective of the Biblical Museum?
We currently live in incredibly tough times, where there is little focus on hope and a hopeful future. Most of the media only report on worrisome and violent issues and this negative news makes many people angry and gloomy. People need hope. And this is especially true for young people who are still at the beginning of their lives.
I think it’s important to focus on hope and a hopeful future right now. Especially because we are creating that future ourselves today. It will not be easy, but a totally different society is possible: one in which we live with respect for each other and for the environment that surrounds us. But first, we must be able to visualize that hopeful, just society. We need to have a goal, an image on which to focus on. Artists can inspire us in this regard with their imagination and creativity. Artists think outside the box. That is why the Bijbels Museum has taken the initiative for this exhibition. RE:FWD is a co-production with Kunstlinie and NDSM FUSE. Thierno, Mees and Caithlin, the three young curators of RE:FWD, are given every opportunity to express their vision of a hopeful future in dialogue with the art of young creators.
