Meedoen Open Call Toren van Babel (English below)
Ben jij de kunstenaar die we zoeken? Neem deel aan deze open call en maak kans om onderdeel uit te maken van de tentoonstelling Toren van Babel. We nodigen je uit om werk in te zenden met een hedendaags perspectief op de thematiek uit de mythe van de toren van Babel en specifiek op de rol van taal in de samenleving.
Een selectie van minimaal twintig werken is van 21 november 2026 t/m 17 mei 2027 te zien in de groepstentoonstelling Toren van Babel in Stedelijk Museum Breda. Toren van Babel is een coproductie van Bijbels Museum en Stedelijk Museum Breda.
Thema
‘Ooit werd er op de hele aarde één enkele taal gesproken’. Meerstemmigheid en (Babylonische) spraakverwarring binnen de maatschappij is vandaag nog even actueel als in het oude verhaal van de toren van Babel. In deze open call staat dit verhaal en het thema taal in de breedste zin van het woord centraal. Denk bijvoorbeeld aan AI, lichaamstaal, beeldtaal, gebarentaal, jongerentaal et cetera.
Voor wie?
De open call richt zich op alle kunstdisciplines en op kunst van makers met verschillende ervaringen, leeftijden en achtergronden. De groepstentoonstelling die uit deze open call voortvloeit, laat daardoor een meerstemmig verhaal klinken over de maatschappij van vandaag.
Bij deze mooie kans om je werk tentoon te stellen in een museum, hoort uiteraard ook een passende vergoeding. Voor je deelname zijn ook een aantal criteria van kracht:
- Kunstenaars uit alle disciplines.
- Zowel ervaren kunstenaars als opkomend talent.
- Het is mogelijk om zowel individueel als collectief werk in te zenden.
- Je bent woonachtig in Nederland en het werk bevindt zich vanaf begin november 2026 in Nederland.
- Per kunstenaar mag slechts één werk mogen ingezonden.

Wil je meedoen? Deelname aan de Open Call – Toren van Babel is mogelijk van 1 november tot en met zondag 14 december 2025. Inzendingen worden verwerkt tot 23.59 uur. Bekijk vooraf ook het document met alle informatie over criteria, randvoorwaarden en vergoeding.

De selectiecommissie
De selectiecommissie van Toren van Babel bestaat uit voorzitter Pavèl van Houten (beeldend kunstenaar en curator), Ayra Kip (schrijver, curator en medeoprichter Kip Republic), Jurnick Koeiman (pedagogisch medewerker Grote Broer Grote Zus, Breda), Marjolein van de Ven (conservator hedendaagse kunst, Stedelijk Museum Breda) en Carolien Croon (directeur Bijbels Museum).

Participate in the Tower of Babel Open Call
Are you the artist we are looking for? Participate in this open call and have the opportunity to be part of the Tower of Babel exhibition. We invite you to submit work with a contemporary perspective on the theme of the myth of the Tower of Babel and specifically on the role of language in society.
A selection of at least twenty works will be on display from 21 November 2026 to 17 May 2027 in the group exhibition Tower of Babel at Stedelijk Museum Breda. Tower of Babel is a co-production of Bijbels Museum and Stedelijk Museum Breda.
Theme: Language
‘Once upon a time, there was only one language spoken on the whole earth’. Polyphony and (Babylonian) confusion of tongues within society are just as relevant today as they were in the ancient story of the Tower of Babel. This open call focuses on this story and the theme of language in the broadest sense of the word. Think, for example, of AI, body language, visual language, sign language, youth language, the language of silence, etc.
Who is it for?
The open call is aimed at all art disciplines and artists with different experiences, ages and backgrounds. The group exhibition resulting from this open call will therefore present a multi-voiced narrative about today’s society.
This wonderful opportunity to exhibit your work in a museum naturally comes with appropriate remuneration. There are also a number of criteria that apply to your participation:
0 Artists from all disciplines.
0 Both experienced artists and emerging talent.
0 It is possible to submit both individual and collective work.
0 You must be a resident of the Netherlands and the work must be located in the Netherlands from the beginning of November 2026.
0 Only one work per artist may be submitted.

Would you like to participate? Participation in the Open Call – Tower of Babel is possible from 1 November to Sunday 14 December 2025. Submissions will be processed until 11:59 p.m. Please review the document containing all information about criteria, preconditions, and compensation in advance.

Selection Committee
The selection committee of Toren van Babel consists of chair Pavèl van Houten (visual artist and curator), Ayra Kip (writer, curator and co-founder of Kip Republic), Jurnick Koeiman (educational worker at Big Brother Big Sister, Breda), Marjolein van de Ven (curator of contemporary art, Stedelijk Museum Breda) and Carolien Croon (director of the Bible Museum).
