Activity program RE:FWD
Wandering around an exhibition space alone isn’t for you? Or have you already visited the RE:FWD exhibition, but would you like to experience, know or hear more about the art, space or the theme of hope? Then check out the activities below!
# Nourish and Imagine: March 21
Do you want to be able to forget everything around you for an evening, eat delicious food and dream away with hope? Then leave your cell phone at home, because RE:FWD is organizing Nourish and Imagine together with Zaal X. There are live performances by young poets, spoken word artists and storytellers from Almere on the theme of hope. Nourish and Imagine offers a special moment to connect with each other, get to know new people and enjoy food & fun together.
# Join the makers: from March 28
Guided tours by Mees Elias van Zanten, Thierno Deme, Caithlin Courtney Chong
Are you curious about how an exhibition is created? Would you like to know just that little bit more about the content of the works in the exhibition? Or are you curious about the personal stories about hope of the three young curators? Caithlin Courtney Chong, Thierno Deme and Mees Elias van Zanten take you through the RE:FWD exhibition and answer – almost all – your pressing questions. There are guided tours on March 28, April 25, May 30 and June 27. The working language is Dutch and/or English.
# Shared incantations: April 5
Are you part of the queer community of Almere? Then literally make your voice heard during the workshop by SasaHara and Alex Olloman. Together they host the Shared Incantations. The workshop takes place in the exhibition, as part of SasaHara’s work Wishing Well. The Wishing Well is an interactive sound sculpture that functions as an altar for queer people, an instrument of resistance and a vocal archive. Through an advanced computer program that uses, processes and, as it were, returns the voices of participants, participants learn to use their voice as an instrument of liberation and connect with each other through vocal playfulness. In this gentle vocal exploration, SasaHara and Alex invite us to heal the wounds of our erased queer ancestors. The oeuvre of the North American queer composer Pauline Oliveros plays an important role during the workshop.
# Zine Bread Buffet: May 24
Talk to artists Sophie Soobramanien and Shreya de Souza about the special edition of their Zine Bread Buffet for/about the exhibition RE:FWD.
Sophie and Shreya conduct research into current social themes and try to translate academic results into audience-friendly texts that they make available in self-designed, low-budget “zines” (mini-magazines).
For RE:FWD they are creating a new edition of Bread Buffet (working title Slippery Hope), inspired by the publications Hope in the Dark by Rebecca Solnit and Hope is a Discipline by Mariame Kaba. In this way they add a substantive layer to the exhibition.
During this special Bread Buffet in Kunstlinie, Shreya and Sophie will enter the exhibition with you as a participant and talk to you about their finds.
At the request of both artists, participants are asked to make a voluntary contribution to the event, and to deposit it on the spot into the account of a charity of their choice.
